Hi Everyone, here are some basic Internet marketing tips for you
90 Days In Amway/Network 21 Part 3
The number1 problem of our MLM business was getting duplication because of the fact the majority of people were terrified at the prospect of phoning friends, family and acquaintances to invite them to an Amway business plan. Most new IBO’s said they were scared what to say if someone asked them “is it Amway”? The fact that they focused on this meant that you could virtually guarantee they would get the question they were dreading, asked. Most people would crumble after this and then would make any excuse they could think of for not building the business. Many a time I had to take the list and ring people for them and go and show the business plan on their behalf. Jerry and I used to sit with people while they called their list to give them support and encouragement. Every new IBO ( Independent Business Owner) used to practice the plan on us when they 1st got started. We also used to tell them to practice on their grandmother or anyone that they knew would never be interested in joining
Our new goal was to become 15% Executive Leaders Club by our 3rd BDS (Business Development Seminar). This looked as though it would be a huge task and would take a lot of work and focus.
To get to this level we had to have 70 people signed up in our team and have 15% volume or 3,250 points which meant our team would need to buy or sell approximately $11,000 dollars worth of products in one month. This probably sounds easy with that many people in our team , but one of the things that always amazed us was the huge percentage of people that joined the business , many who said they were only joining to buy products and then didn’t order one thing. Luckily there were products that attracted high levels of points, such as water filters, air filters, Artistry skincare kits, artistry makeup kits, Eddie Funkhouser kits and Emma Page jewellery kits. As soon as a new kit came out you were encouraged to buy it and invest in your business. Many times product stock piled up because there is only so much time, what with going to meetings out showing the plan and then trying to sell all these products. I found I only really had time to do jewellery, makeup and skincare showings at the weekend which meant I didn’t get to see much of the kids.
Jerry and I worked consistently and got recognised on stage by our 3rd BDS which we were very excited about.
Our First 90 Days In Amway/Network 21 – Part 2
We were very excited at the prospect of getting a passive income from our Amway/Network 21 business.
We got in action straight away and did what our upline Diamonds Amgad and Melissa Ghabrial advised us.
They told us to write a list of everyone we knew and gave us a script that we had to use when calling people. We were told explicitly not to mention that it was Amway. Amgad gave us three dates and told us to invite as many people to our house as possible and that they would kick off our business for us by showing group plans. Even though we were very nervous we had 22 people turn up at our first group business plan.
Within our first 5 weeks we went 9% Leaders club. Which at the time meant that we had to personally sponsor 5 people on our frontline and have 1,000 points or PV go through our business. These 5 people came from having 4 group plans at our house and we were very grateful that our upline conducted these for us.
We were told that now we would need to go out and show at least 8 people a month the Amway business plan.
In Our 2nd month there was a challenge, anyone that went out and showed 8 plans that month and was 9% LC or above could go out for a special dinner with their upline Diamonds. Always up for a challenge, we made sure that this was accomplished. We met lots of great people at this dinner and I remember one particular couple Dennis and Jill. They had been in the business for a while and were at the Platinum level. Always wanting to learn I asked this couple many many questions about the business, they were very guarded and seemed a bit taken aback that I was asking all these questions. I found out later that there was a rule called No Cross lining, which meant that if I wasn’t in their business then I shouldn’t ask any questions to do with business.
I remember our first weekend seminar like it was yesterday, as usual there was a challenge, if you got 5 people to pay to go to the seminar you got preferential seating near the front. We achieved this goal and we were both looking forward to hearing Jim Dornan the founder of Network 21 speak on stage.
At the seminar Jim Dornan spoke about a new tool we would all be using to help us build our business, it was called the focus board. We also learnt that if you were serious about your business you should be listening to 3 tapes a day and showing not 8 but 15 plans a month. There was a special pin you could receive called the silver Eagle and this was presented to you when you showed 15 plans a month for 3 months in a row. The ultimate was a Gold Eagle pin and this was for showing 30 plans a month for 3 months in a row. We thought this would be a cinch to do, the problem wasn’t being scared of showing the plan but finding this many people in a month to consistently show the plan to.
We did eventually achieve these goals and received both the Silver and Gold Eagle pins.
One of the reasons our first weekend seminar was so memorable for us, was the fact that I asked Gad and Melissa if there was any way we could meet Jim Dornan and also Peter and Debbie Cox who at the time were triple Diamonds and super stars in Network 21. Gad said he would see what he could do and to our delight we got introduced very briefly to all of them. Years later we found out that this was very rare for newbies to get introduced to people of such a high pin level.
I used to listen to 3 tapes a day and my favourites were those of Mitch Sala and Peter Cox they were extremely Passionate and inspirational to listen to.
There were tapes that you could buy that specifically taught you how to prospect people. Two that I used to listen to all the time were “It Starts With A Smile “ and the other was “How To Talk To Anybody Anytime” both were by Ray Keller.
The key to any MLM is the list and finding the people to show the plan to. Eventually every one you meet , even complete strangers become potential candidates for you to show the plan to and you have to get over the fear of cold calling if you want to get any where in the business. Once Jerry and I conquered that fear it then surprised us how many successful business people and even life coaches that we signed up froze with fear at the thought of having to call people about the business, even to call their close friends.
Eventually prospecting became one of my key strengths in the business. I would show the compensation plan to anyone I met if they had a spare 15 minutes. I got an expert of showing the plan on a scrap of paper in fact our line of sponsorship even printed a mini brochure called the 15 minute plan. This little brochure was very handy as it could be carried around in your pocket or handbag quite easily.
I was running my Hairdressing salon full time and any sales rep that walked into my shop got to see the l plan and virtually every client that walked through the door got to see the plan. I didn’t realise at the time, but later found out that many clients didn’t come back because of this. After I had sold my salon years later I heard many times that my salon had been named “The Amway Salon”
It still amazes me today that you can get so swept up in things that you don’t notice what is happening.

A Journey into Business
Ex Amway/Network 21 Emerald's Story
I found owning a Hair and Beauty Salon for many years I was frequently targeted by people promoting their Multi Level Marketing Businesses. The majority of the people prospecting me were Amway Distributors, Network 21 or IDA . At the time I didn’t realise that Network 21 and IDA people were actually in the Amway business.
In the year 2000 I read my first Anthony Robbins, Personal Development book, “Awaken The Giant Within”. Wow! This book really opened up a whole new world to me and got me on the track to reading many other Personal Development books in fact so much so that I became a bit of a Personal Development junkie.
It was at my first Anthony Robbins "Wealth Mastery" seminar where my mind was opened up like an umbrella. I started setting and writing down my goals and thinking about what was my lifes purpose. I soon realised that I didn’t want to be running my Hair and Beauty Salon for many years to come.
I had decided I wanted a new business, one where I could help people from all around the World, but had no idea what that sort of business could be.
Within days of going to Tony Robbins “Wealth Mastery” I received 3 phone calls from people that said they would like to come over and talk to Jerry and myself about new business projects they were working on.
One guy came over and proceded to tell us his shirt was as white as it was due to an amazing SA8 washing powder. He then started explaining the Amway compensation plan, but said he was trained through a company called IDA. Before he left he gave us a pile of tapes to listen to and a book to read.
A few nights later we had a couple come over and they said they were from Network 21 and explained a business concept with a flip chart. They also left us with tapes and books.
The next people to show us the plan were Network 21 Diamonds, Amgad and Melissa Ghabrial.
I vividly remember when we came to sign up, Jerry gave me a very strange sideways look. It was only after our sponsor Amgad Ghabrial had left that he said "did you realise this is Amway?"
I had realised but it amused me that he thought we were joining Network 21.
Network 21 and IDA were two of the training company’s that ran Business Previews, Business Development Seminars, Weekend Seminars and sold training tools, such as motivational tapes, CD’s, DVD’s and personal development books to Amway distributors. Some of these tools taught IBO’s how to prospect, show the plan, cold call and do follow ups. We were told that if we wanted to have success we would need to listen to at least 2 or 3 tapes a day, the tapes were very motivational.
